Is a program
that “infects” computer files, usually other executable programs, by
inserting copies of itself in those files? The first virus, Elk Cloner,
was written in 1982 by Rich Skrenta and attached itself to the Apple DOS
3.3 operating system. The first personal computer virus, Brain, came in
1986, and macro viruses emerged in the mid-1990s. The Love Bug virus of
2000 caused more than $10 billion of damage to computers and networks.

Adware- The
most common form of malware. It’s a type of spyware that secretly imbeds
itself on your computer and analyzes your web browsing habits. While most
of the advertisements you see are for legitimate companies, the actual
producers of the spyware are not.
Browser
Hijacker (hijackware) – alter your web browser setting to redirect you to
a different homepage, typically to questions websites (adult, gaming,

Dialer - There are legitimate Internet Dialers but the malware verity
makes phone calls to 900 numbers secretly through your modem resulting in
large phone bills. This type of malware will only work on dialup
connections (modem-based).
